LinkedIn EXT.

Project Overview

LinkedInEXT. is a redesigned extension of the LinkedIn platform aimed at helping professionals, freelancers, and career changers create intentional, meaningful connections through mentorship and personalized networking.

The goal was to move beyond surface-level connections and make it easier for users to find mentors, schedule chats, and grow professionally through real conversations.

This project explores how thoughtful UX can turn a traditionally overwhelming platform into a more focused and guided experience that empowers users to build relationships that matter.

Process

1. Discovery & Research

  • Conducted competitive analysis of LinkedIn, Shapr, and Lunchclub
  • Identified pain points: networking fatigue, lack of mentorship features, and generic job search flows
  • Interviewed target users and created empathy maps to highlight goals and frustrations

2. Define

  • Created three primary personas (a job seeker, networker & a mentor)
  • Defined problem statement: “Users need a better way to make intentional, meaningful connections for career growth.”
  • Outlined key opportunities for improvement and introduced new user flows

3. Ideation & Strategy

  • Sketched out revised task flows for finding mentors and scheduling chats
  • Designed wireframes for a focused “Mentorship” and improved onboarding
  • Prioritized features like match-based networking, context-based introductions, and skill-focused filters

4. Design Execution

  • Built mid- to hi-fi wireframes in Figma
  • Designed a consistent visual system inspired by modern professional platforms
  • Applied feedback from usability testing to improve clarity and reduce friction in task flows

5. Testing & Iteration

  • Ran usability tests with 3 users per persona
  • Noted confusion around onboarding and made revisions for quicker setup
  • Added visual cues, confirmation states, and clearer copy to guide users

6. Final Prototype & Presentation

  • Created a clickable prototype to demonstrate core interactions
  • Developed a mood board and brand extension for LinkedIn Meets
  • Prepared a portfolio-ready case study with annotated visuals and user journey maps

Outcome

The final design introduced a streamlined mentorship, career switch feature and intentional networking flow that tested positively with users looking for more meaningful professional interactions.

  • Increased clarity in user journeys with simplified onboarding and clear task flows
  • Positive feedback on the mentorship hub concept and match-based introductions
  • Improved usability after testing led to key revisions in navigation and interaction cues
  • High-fidelity prototype created in Figma with a modern, professional visual system

This project demonstrated my ability to lead a UX process end-to-end—from research and ideation to testing and visual design—while solving a real user need within a familiar platform.
